Our roots in the carpet business go back as far as the early 1930s, with Grandmother Urban working back East for the highly respected and oldest industry brand Alexander Smith, and with Father Urban owning and operating Urban Carpet Service for almost 30 years until 1974.

Michael holds a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from New York University and in total has almost 50 years of industry experience as one of the best. After 12 years as a union carpet layer (local 1290 AFL/CIO) working large projects such as Watergate Apartments in Emeryville and the San Jose Civic Center, Michael established Associated Flooring in 1982 and has since performed thousands of carpet and flooring installations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
